In 2003, Anita Halcyon met Arthur Brock in Denver Colorado. She worked as the Executive Director for The Time Exchange(TEN), a , which supported community members exchanging hours, as a complementary currency, for services. Arthur was the CTO of DreamTeam Technologies, and Mary Camacho was the CEO. With the help of a local grant, TEN contracted with them to build the first online (cloud) time exchange.
Arthur had mentioned multiple times that TimeBanking wasn't the only, or even best "currency", and that there were others to consider going forward. And, in 2004, with the software nearing completion, Anita was injured in a car accident and had to leave her position with TEN to go on extended "brain rest". The software project was ultimately shelved because the national organization, , decided to build their own online version. Since that time a wide variety of and Service exchanges have been built and used in communities worldwide.
In 2018, Anita learned of after following her intuition to catch up with Arthur on Facebook. As a non-developer, it was difficult to understand the videos and articles without being a coder. And still, the vision… and the people… were amazing. She became a , and just read what she could. Then in 2020, she joined RevDrMatt (from the HoloForum) and Lucas Tauil (Holo Staff Member) to create the . It was one way to help those non-developers understand more about the Holochain ecosystem.
In 2021, she joined Sam Turner, Jamie Klinger, and Holo staff member, Carolyn Beer to envision and create the (HACC) on . The intention was to create a place where non-developers could find more information and enjoy community in an easy-to-understand environment.
In late 2021, Anita took inspiration from Hylo’s amazing AirTable databases showing the transparency of their ongoing platform development. Using AirTable, she created what she had wanted to find, a database listing the various Holochain Applications (hApps) in development.
The intention was (and is) to encourage those who are Holochain “Advocates” to understand they have an opportunity to participate in the Ecosystem by supporting the Projects. HoloHosts/Advocates/Enthusiasts have a wealth of talents to tap, and want to feel valued, useful, and included in the community.
From this history, a sense of “unfinished business” from the time banking days, and the Holochain’s communities growing need for more connection and collaboration, this small hApp, "Requests & Offers HC/MVP", is being created.
Let the games begin!
After showing the HACC team, Sam and Anita decided to build out the database further. Later in 2022, they started a company called AnSam Enterprises, LLC. They then built a website called to share the data, and a wide variety of information for all levels of interest in the Holochain Ecosystem.
While working on the database, the initial "" exchange idea took root. As the Holochain Projects were building, it was clear to us that they would have needs, and asked them when gathering data to list those wants/needs so that we could let the community know how to support those Projects.
Next Sam and Anita created the bi-weekly newsletter on Substack called , to further help the Holochain community get to know all the amazing projects, events, and articles/videos being created.
